Osteopathy
Awareness Week It’s
that time of year again, Osteopathy
Awareness Week will take place in the second week of April coinciding with
Arthritis Week.
Awareness week is a
chance for the osteopathic profession, to further increase the
expanding awareness and reputation of Osteopathy. With the recent graduation of
over 100 students from 3
universities, Osteopathy continues to grow and is becoming
a major
contributor within the health care system. This year's theme is
:
GOOD HEALTH FOR LIFEThe
theme focuses on the unique benefits that Osteopathic treatment can bring to the
many health conditions we may encounter during our lives.
Osteopaths
can restore better all round health to sufferers of headache or migraine, back
or neck pain, sports injuries, lethargy, asthma, poor circulation, arthritis,
constipation and poor digestion.
Osteopathy
is a form of drug free
manual medicine, focusing on total body health and pain relief.
Osteopathy has helped people of all ages from newborn’s with sleep disorders
and colic to elite sporting athletes and seniors who want more out of life. The use of gentle, effective manual techniques allows the osteopath to restore balance and harmony to not only the musculoskeletal framework, but also the nervous, circulatory and lymphatic systems. That’s the holistic approach towards good health for life. Osteopathy
& Arthritis Osteopathy Awareness week coincides this year with Arthritis Week, making it the perfect time to visit Hobart Osteopathic Clinic for treatment of the aches and pains associated with arthritis. The natural aging process greatly affects the
elasticity of the musculoskeletal system increasing the chance of injury to the
soft tissues and bony structures of the body. The affects
of aging on the body’s structure give rise to symptoms such as: · Generalised morning stiffness ·
Lower back pain & stiffness ·
Neck & arm pain ·
Hip & knee pain Often when people reach the age where they have more time on their side for recreational activities, it can be disheartening if pain & stiffness restricts them from enjoying these activities. Many people mistakenly believe that the affect of aging on the bodies joints is untreatable and they have no alternative but to live with their pain. Medications prescribed for these symptoms such as anti-inflammatories can often have undesirable side effects. Osteopaths are trained to seek out the underlying muscle/joint strains and, using a variety of simple hands on techniques, restore normal movement to the affected parts of the spine and to other joints around the body with the result that aches and pains can disappear, movement improve, and energy levels increase. Osteopaths
achieve this using: ·
Soft tissue techniques to increase blood flow to joints ·
Gentle mobilisation/movement of the joints ·
Indirect release and manipulative techniques ·
Postural alignment of joints, to minimise the wear and tear. Osteopathy Awareness Week gives you an opportunity to find out if osteopathy will work for you. The Osteopaths at Hobart Osteopathic Clinic and New Town Back Care And Work Injury Clinic are offering to give This
involves having a case history taken, a physical examination carried out and
then a discussion of how Osteopathy might be of benefit to you.
